Matthew Barnes was the youngest of seven children. He is survived by his wife, Sue, and three sons, Matt Jr., 12; Jesse, 11; and Tommy, 8. The hero firefighter earned accolades from the fire department in 1999 when he rescued two infants trapped on the ninth floor of a raging inferno on Manhattan's Upper West Side. He was 37.
