David Alger had a way with the stock market. The mutual funds he managed thrived during the bull market of the 1990s. He became one of the biggest supporters of technology stocks. Alger took over the firm from his brother, Frederick, in 1995. The California-born investor is survived by his wife and two daughters. He was 57.
